Central Cyber-Workforce Accelerator

The Central Cyber-Workforce Accelerator is an initiative I lead to close the gap between how cybersecurity is taught and how it is practiced. Cybersecurity is a field where the threats, tools, and expectations shift constantly, and where employers consistently report that graduates need more hands-on, real-world readiness than a traditional classroom alone can provide. The Accelerator addresses this by building lasting partnerships between the university and the organizations that hire our students, so that authentic industry problems become the material students learn from rather than an afterthought once they graduate.

At the heart of the effort is a simple idea: employers should be active collaborators in education, not just recipients of it. Through the Accelerator, partner organizations across sectors such as financial services, state government, and advanced manufacturing help shape project work and curriculum, contribute real challenges for students to tackle, and mentor the next generation of practitioners. Students, in turn, gain experience solving problems that matter to working professionals, from securing complex systems to strengthening governance and defensive practices, and they build the professional competencies and confidence that make them workforce-ready on day one.

My goal is to make this a sustainable, repeatable model that benefits everyone involved. Students graduate with demonstrable skills and meaningful connections to potential employers. Partner organizations gain early access to emerging talent and a direct hand in developing it. The university strengthens its role as a driver of regional cybersecurity capacity. Over time, I want the Accelerator to serve as a foundation for a growing and resilient cyber-workforce pipeline that keeps pace with the demands of the field.
